At last, someone has discovered that gastronomy and art are like brothers and sisters. Pictures, dishes, flavors and forms: Société Budapest has a new series of dinner nights, where we can have a guided tour and a seated dinner at the same time.

Zsanett Barna is one of those exceptions who already knew even in elementary school that she was interested in hospitality and gastronomy. Since then, she has been constantly developing herself while working hard.

Tombor Zoltán – “Homeward”, a photo exhibition

Homeward – a fashion documentary series that tells a story in a familiar Eastern European environment.

Zoltán Tombor is one of the most outstanding Hungarian photographers of our time who is familiar both with applied and fine art photography. In addition to fashion and portrait photography, his dynamic and diverse oeuvre also features autonomous works. He collaborates with renowned magazines (Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Time or Kinfolk), brands, creators and celebrities. His own limited edition publication called "Supernation" has been published every fall since 2015.

Returning from New York after a decade and a half, on December 18 2019, Société opened a temporary exhibition entitled "Homeward" in Budapest, which aroused great interest.

The fashion documentary series was first presented in Budapest, and it tells a story in a familiar Eastern European setting.

The exhibition is an emotional panorama of an old and new, personal past and a collective history that not only displays the general and cloudless beauty of childhood, but also the melancholic atmosphere of the countryside through Tombor's iconic aesthetics.

Zoltán Tombor - Homeward (roundtable discussion and guided tour)

Tombor's photo exhibition inspired the roundtable discussion on January 8, 2020, where Luca Nyáry, writer and slammer (Krisztián Nyáry's daughter) and György Dragomán, writer and translator were invited to share their thoughts with the audience and the artist about the photos. The discussion was led by Anna Ott.

One of the topics of the night was what "home" really really means to them and how would they define it. For Luca Nyáry, home means those 4-5 people whom she loves and important to her. For Zoltán Tombor home is the mother language, while György Dragomán cherishes the memory of Marosvásárhely from his childhood which no longer exists.

Being away from home often makes one feel homesick. For Zoltán Tombor, the desire for home is a bit mournful, because it includes the goodbye and the feeling that "I've left, this can't be undone". Luca Nyáry, in her own words, "idealizes Hungary forever" and her desire for home is always associated with a very strong sense of pride. For her, this is not a sad feeling, but an intensified positive one. György Dragomán always missed his father, he has always been looking for him. In his view, the feeling of homesickness and grief means that we are looking for ourselves. He said, the desire for home is equal to always wanting to remember.

All three of them believe that art is a good tool for self-expression and that anyone who has traveled the world for years can easily return, because there is a nostalgia in us that makes us remember only the good things.

The discussion was closed by Zita Sárvári, curator of Société Budapest and Zoltán Tombor's guided tour at the photos. The photographer is currently working on a self-inspired photo series in his new, Hungarian base.

Sunset yoga above the city

We are launching our newly opened rooftop terrace with a special program series

It's half-past seven in the evening, excited yogis arrive at Société and gather in the atrium, then head up to the fifth floor for a special yoga class. The location is our recently opened rooftop, which will now be home to exciting and various programs.

Orsi, the yoga instructor (Yoga Brunch Budapest), is now familiar in Société Budapest. Since our opening, she has filled our atrium several times with her guests. Even though the classes were almost always full, we agreed that the real thing will be when we can finally kick off the rooftop yoga series. On cold the winter days, we imagined people meditating at sunset, with the Basilica and the beautiful city skyline as a background. We were excited about Thursday night when this vision finally became reality.

During yoga, even time slows down: in these sixty minutes everyone loses their sense of time, concentrates only on the "here and now", listens inward, relaxes, which is helped by the open air and beautiful surroundings. After the session, our guests admired the evening lights of the city while sipping on some refreshing drinks. This is also part of the program to give participants a chance to talk and get to know each other and not hurrying home after the class.

“It was an unforgettable experience,” said a guest before leaving, and we thought it was a worthy debut of our fifth-floor patio.

Two more rooftop yoga classes will be held during the summer: on 6th August a sunset yoga awaits you, and later on the 15th a full moon yoga class will close the season. Beginners are also welcome, everyone is guaranteed to have a good time and be physically and mentally charged. If you would like to attend the next event, email to yogabrunchbudapest@gmail.com.

Textart, cardboard crystal and light installation at Société Budapest

Our next exhibition, titled “Allegory Of The Cave” features works by young and vibrant abstract artists looking for new ways in artistic expression.

If you are looking for an exciting new art experience, you should visit our next exhibition, titled Allegory Of The Cave, which features works by young and vibrant abstract artists looking for new ways in artistic expression.

Our seven artists are trying to reach the knowledgeable audience with their works through unfamiliar roads, as young people have their own way of conveying their thoughts and feelings in a non-traditional way. The exhibition will be just captivating as every artwork shows something new and fresh.

But who are these artists? Some are obsessed with ever-changing forms and while others create a special world with the help of a mysterious painting machine. In addition, a unique light installation will be seen on the facade of Société Budapest.

Although the artists are young, they have already received many international acclaims. Exhibitions include the Kunsthalle, the Venice and Sao-Paolo Biennials and the Zentrum für Kunst und Medien in Karlsruhe. “These are very important artists of our time,” says Zita Sárvári, curator of the exhibition. The second exhibition is a similar challenge to the previous one since the interior of Société is not a traditional exhibition hall. At the same time, it is a place that brings the latest trends to those who are interested in art and where the artists themselves are happy to exhibit their work.”

Exhibiting artists: Zsófi Barabás, Róbert Batykó, József Csató, Tamás Komoróczky, Gergely Kiss, Áron Kútvölgyi-Szabó, Erik Mátrai

Opening: Thursday, March 28, 2019, 7 pm

The exhibition can be viewed until September with Zita Sárvári curator in a pre-agganged time.
